This song is a bit philosophical and a bit autobiographical. Some people spend their whole lives blaming others for their state of mind so they remain forever stuck. I think the inability to forgive ourselves and others is the greatest source of sorrow in a person's life. Acceptance and forgiveness are the great acts of healing.
Make Peace With Yourself
There's so much to learn
But I feel like I'm ready
Got my hands on the wheel
And I'm holding her steady
If I just keep on I might finally get it
Even in this lifetime
You make peace with yourself
Cause there's nobody else who can
Totally know your mind
Some people cannot forgive
So they've got to live
With the past they can't leave behindThere was a boy who lost his mother
She left him with tears in his eyes
So women's hearts were tokens
Till his own heart was broken
And he finally realized
You make peace with yourself
Cause there's nobody else who can
Totally know your mind
Some people cannot forgive
So they've got to live
With the past they can't leave behind
There was a woman who married a man
Cause he had her father's eyes
But it was ill fated by a father she hated
And her husband paid for the crimesYou make peace with yourself
Cause there's nobody else who can
Totally know your mind
Some people cannot forgive
So they've got to live
With the past they can't leave behind
I used to think that growing up was painful
Every memory I'd recall
Oh my soul was shaken
When I finally awakened
I never grew up at all
I'm finally free from that ship that was sinking
It was my lonely past
I'd rather be just as free as a dolphin
Than to tie myself to that mastYou make peace with yourself
Cause there's nobody else who can
Totally know your mind
Some people cannot forgive
So they've got to live
With the past they can't leave behind
