Performances The
weekend of August 8-10 was wonderful. I did the three concerts at the Garlic
Festival and the Friday night at Provinces. I went from the 7 piece Latin
band to a solo performance. We had so much fun on Friday with Manolito.
I heard from lots of people that everything stopped for our show and we
were very well received. My solo Saturday morning performance was very heartfelt
and I was touched by all the people who lent their hearts and ears to my
songs. The sound company is fantastic. We all donated our time and performances
to be a part of a family gathering.
My son, Freedom, did a beautiful acoustic set with Djimbe's
and 12 string guitar, his acoustic, Stephen's electric, a sitar and his
magnificent voice as well as Ammishaddai's flute. He performed the kind of
music he usually does late at night after his concerts. It was amazing.
What an array of talent. We had most of the family together, everyone except
Chani. We missed her. Sarah and Andie and I tore up the dance floor Saturday
night and Andie and Sarah did the neon hoopla hoops. It was all too much
fun.
I got to play Djimbe with Joules Graves for her show and I
was so honored. What a ball of energy and love she is. Rejoice joined Jimmy
and I on Sunday morning for the Rain concert. I love her voice. That was
the best version of Shower the People I have ever performed. There was an
impromptu performance by several artists after my morning show on Saturday.
Truly beautiful music and sweet juicy harmony. Sasha Butterfly's voice has
matured greatly over the last year. We were unable to stay for her concert
but we saw her perform with other artists.
Reviews
We left the Garlic Festival and we went to the Kenny Loggins show Sunday
night at the St. Michelle Winery and they could have used Rick's (the sound
man for the Garlic Festival) talents to dial the sound in for that show,
especially the opening act. It was wonderful though. Kathy and Dale went
with us and got us a good spot to sit. Unfortunately, I did manage to get
the weaving 6'5" women sitting in front of me. We seemed to have a
spiritual connection because which ever way I leaned she was right there
blocking my view. Kenny rocked and I am looking forward to the new CD. His
ballad, The One that Got Away, really touched my heart. His new material
is, I think, some of the best stuff he has written since Leap of Faith.
His band was 5 piece including him, bass, lead, keyboards and drums and everybody
sang and sang well. I love that harmony! He had some humorous and insightful
stories to tell and I loved the living room setup for the acoustic set.
Great show Kenny!

Summer Fun It
really has been a great summer. It is been a joy having Sarah here. Traveling
with Jim and Penni and making friends with The Fickel Family. I played a
lot of music in Ohio. Terri has a great voice and a wonderful sense of harmony.
A I would like to recruit Ann Fickel for sound effects on my next project.
She did the locker crashes in The Boxer and then a hilarious snorting sound
the last time through. The winery was a good experience but I really feel
like it would help if Columbia Winery would mention the Vintage Sale event
on their website. Also I will suggest that directions to the winery be linked
to the first page because they are hard to find. We had plenty of great
wine but not nearly enough people.
Web Design I will be designing a website shortly for Milan,
a songwriter, producer friend of mine back in Missouri. I will let you know
when that is happening.
New Venue
I
may begin playing at Cafe de Paris in Edmonds for dinner shows on
Friday and Saturday evenings from 7-9 PM. Furman, the owner, and I are talking.
It could be a good thing. I enjoy good food and company so it would probably
work well. This is a smoke free environment. I will keep you posted.
Thank You
Thank
you to Jimmy Culler for coming in and playing bass with me Friday and Saturday
night at Provinces. He played great. A special thanks goes out to Jamie
Phalen also. His band Smokin' Gun plays for huge crowds and he still will
come down and set up and play with me at Provinces and it surely makes me
smile. It is great to laugh and both Jimmy and Jamie are great at making
that happen. Jamie is talking about recording some of my tunes and I hope
he follows through with that because I would be honored. He is a great singer
and harmonist. Harmony is something you miss a lot when you sing alone.
I was very proud of all
the musicians who made up Manolito and thank them for donating their time
and sharing their talents for the Garlic Festival. They were Dale Fuentes
and Roger Bennett from Bahia, and Scott Drexler, Lonnie Mueller, Jimmy Culler
and Mike Daily.
Studio
Lots of studio projects
are happening and I always love that.
David Jones, Dale Fuentes, Sarah Maria Murat, Doug Williams, Casey Garland
are a few of the many people who have projects beginning this month. I am
also consulting on sound system and recording purchases this month for several
clients.
Andie is working on her piano and we are going to organize rehearsals for
she and Sarah and I so we can perform together. I would so love that. It
is a great combination of voices. Check out Far Cry From Love on the free
downloads. She has a very sweet voice.
