This song was written start to finish in about 15 minutes. It was just all there, I grabbed a book marker which was the only paper I could find and wrote it down as it came out. It was a time when my friend Scott MacGougan and I were going through very similar changes. We got together and recorded the song in a few hours. It was added to the Gone to Yesterday CD as the final bonus cut. It was a time of some very painful growth.
Lifeline
I came home from playing with the kids
And found the note that said that you were gone
I never thought that it would come to this
I never felt so all alone
You are my lifeline
You are the reason I carry on
You are my lifeline
Now you're gone
I'm surprised to find that I'm surprised
That you would leave me in this way
So many times I promised then I lied
I should be glad how long you stayed
ChorusBridge one
I thank the Lord for your love
They way you showed me that you cared
I can't believe that you would go away
And leave me standing hereChorus
Somebody told me I would throw it all away
They saw it written in my hands
They said that maybe I could turn it all around
But I would only get just one more chance
Bridge two
I call your name from this room with a view
And everything that's beautiful
Reminds my soul of you
And I hope that you'll forgive me
And I hope your heart will heal
For the wonder of your faithful love
Taught me how to feelI look around me saying good-bye to our home
You said that when you get back
You want to find me gone
You never let me doubt you
I was sure you'd always stay
It's the hardest thing
I've ever faced alone
You are my lifeline
You are the reason
I carried on
You are my lifeline
You are me lifeline
Now you're gone
