Lost In Vietnam

Slugs in the yard, bamboo's down
Rain fell hard on this sleepy town
Guns popping off at the firing range
After all these years it still makes me feel strange

John Wesley died third day in Nam
I still recall his eyes as I walked away from him
He changed companies at a captain's whim
I knew he knew from the look in his eyes
He was never going home again
Never going home

Mai Lee said "Joe have another beer"
You want cocaine, we've got it here."
(She meant heroin)
Drunk or stoned we all fought the war
A chance to go home was all we were fighting for

Chorus
We dreamed of home
Through the blood and sweat and toil
Wounded hearts there on the Asian soil
To get back home was our only plan
Part of my heart and soul's still
Lost in Vietnam

The monsoons came and it rained and rained again
Thought we'd never get dry
We slept soaked to the skin
And every night was an eternity
Waiting and wondering what was out in front of me

We dreamed of home
Through the blood and sweat and toil
Wounded hearts there on the Asian soil
To get back home was our only plan
Part of my heart and soul's still
Lost in Vietnam

I was cooking my coffee on top of a ridge
When the mortars fell
I said ain't this a bitch
I grabbed my M-60 and I fired the tracer rounds
I fired and fired and fired again
But nothing went down
I was shooting at air, but I didn't care

Sniper fired, taking pot shots at me
As I crawled across the burned out field
To get to my buddy
There was terror in his eyes
But he was okay
I heart the hiss and then the pop
As the bullets passed my way

We dreamed of home
Through the blood and sweat and toil
Wounded hearts there on the Asian soil
To get back home was our only plan
Part of my heart and soul is still lost in Vietnam

Sniper fired, taking pot shots at me
As I crawled across the burned out field
To get to my buddy
There was terror in his eyes
But he was okay
I heart the hiss and then the pop
As the bullets passed my way

We dreamed of home
Through the blood and sweat and toil
Wounded hearts there on the Asian soil
To get back home was our only plan
Part of my heart and soul's still
Lost in Vietnam

It's a tale too hard to tell
It's a tale that must be told
It's a tale in which I dwell
That turned a young heart old
Gotta get home
Don't want to be lost in Vietnam

A special note of love and thanks to our big circle of family. I am as much of fan of yours as you are of the music and light it brings. This is our world. Let's navigate it together.  Playing music would be nothing if not for sharing and the connection it creates between us. I hope I can reach from the well to share music with you soon. Greg

A few past performances:

Ebey Island Freedom Festival

Ebey Island, Washington
September 3    4pm
Scott MacGougan playing lead-Greg Murat- Jimmy Culler bass-John Matthews on percussion-Mike Daily on drums-Deb MacGougan shaker and harmony

Best Blues festival in the state. We were the square peg in the round hole as we are not a blues band. We were warmly welcomed last year and it was great to have a chance to share music with good people once again.
It was a grand show with Scott MacGougan on lead guitar and a few backup vocals by his wife Deb MacGougan. They have a group called TwoMacs and they play original music with a message and a groove. Jimmy Culler  (One of the most sought after bassist's in the area) on bass, Mike Daily (owner and operator of Studio04Recording Studio)was on drums, John Matthews was on percussion happily percolating the groove, Papa Greg on the only nylon string guitar at the festival. It was good for the soul and a much needed exchange of love with the audience, fellow musicians, friends and fans.

Past Performances
Arlington Fly In

Paraphenalia
Arlington
My final performance at this event took place on July 9th, 2016 in the afternoon

Good times at Jimmy Culler's work place party.
Lots of flying going on and good people hanging out together.
As of 2017 Jimmy is hiring his circle of blues friends. There are superb players this
year like Don Wilhelm on bass, Mike Marinig on Sax and Jeffrey Morgan on bass.

Music In The Pines

Lake Chelan foothills
July 16th

This event was such a joy for the band. Kevin Sutherland was at the sound board so the monitors were glorious. We did eventually get rained out. Never in 5 years time has it rained at this event. Go figure. I did tell the boys "we are not playing Let It Pour. We opened with that at a festival last year and we got a deluge.
Yikes. We all spent two nights there at Michael Gardner's place
and had a grand time. It was nice to just be around the gang
and not have to go anywhere. There was a cool wind blowing
and Andie and I camped comfortably in the van.
It was a good get away. If you have the time next year on
July 17th send me a note and I will give you directions.
It is free. Bring Your Own Everything. Relax in the pines.

It is with much sadness that I share the Wild Vine Bistro has shut down. I did record our last show and I am so grateful that I did.The Wild Vine Bistro was a great supporter of local talent. I love Laura and the entire crew and have to say they are the best people I have ever been around in that environment. My heart aches but there are lots of good memories. I once read on Facebook; "What could be better than good music, food, spirits and friends with Laura Bliven's hospitality."
The ambience and food was wonderfully fine! We deeply miss. Laura and the amazing crew, music, spirits, food and fun. Tristan, Daniel, Kinsley, Lindsey, Rachel, and Litsa rock the room.

Greg Murat and Cool Wind
(Scott MacGougan, John Matthews, Mike Daily, Jimmy Culler, Debbie MacGougan) played the Oak Harbor Music Festival a few times over the last few years. It is a wonderful event. A free, end of summer music festival featuring folk, rock, R&B, country, blues, jazz and more on the north end of Whidbey Island.

The event is geared to raise money for music scholarships for young up and coming musicians.

I endorse these capos completely!

Unique design allows you to easily move the capo
