Sunday July 31
It is a small world. At the party I played at Priest Point on Saturday someone came sauntering up to me and said "Hi Greg, It's Mary." Of course I Knew here since I met her at Provinces when she came in with Manolito Dale Fuentes. The funny part is that I had a strong feeling all week to call Dale and ask him to come and play the party with me even though Dave (who invited me to play) requested that it be only one musician. I knew they would love Dale. But in the last several months I have not been able to get through to him on the phone so I said never mind. Mary called him on her cell and I said "You should have come!" Maybe next time, next year. It was a wonderful gathering filled with people who came to party. It is a small world.

Wednesday July 28
Captain Morgan road again last night as Mr. Mike Daily brought his cooler with all the supplies. It was just plain great fun. Everyone was ready to run into the sweat box and do vocals and we just went round and round. I only went in once to do a little ending to a song that I thought would be fun. We did parts and Jimmy and then Mike ad libbed another part. It was hilarious. I should make a bootleg CD with all the behind the scenes comments because they were hilarious. There was magic happening musically but most of all it was just plain fun.

Tuesday July 27
Mike, Jimmy, Christopher, Ron and I met at Silent T last night to do some vocals. I am not sure we got anything that we will keep but it was fun to sit in the Cabana and sing in a circle with just one guitar. I can really see the benefit of this thing they call rehearsal. We have some real pitch concerns. I am glad other people have ideas on harmonies because I don't. I just know if it sounds good. Since Christopher Nickels does the harmony arrangements the band he is in he really helps. Ron had some good ideas too. I must say I am really approaching the point called never mind when it comes to the song Where Can I Find Love.
I heard Mike saying he has put more finishing touches on his Studio 04 and now has business cards and is open to the public. He has set himself up really good for a busy and fruitful retirement. We should all really get an endorsement from Captain Morgan as much as he has participated in our efforts. Ahoy Matey, reel in those tracks.

July has been a busy month with family events and company. Mike and Jimmy were off in Eastern Washington at the Hang gliding competitions. Mike won second place in the contest. He was in first place right up until the last flight.
Papa Murat played at the Arlington Fly In for Para-phenalia where Jimmy works. We did our Provinces weekend with Christopher, Jimmy and I on Friday night. The second night we added Ron and Dale to the Boys in the Corner Band. It was packed both nights at Provinces and we had a lot of fun and ate really good. Kelly was actually in for the evening and not bartending. We never see that so it was fun to have her sing with the band. And "I am not shy" Dee Robertson joined us for several songs too. Dee sings the blues like nobody's business and goes out in public with less clothing than anyone else I know. It is interesting to watch and be a part of the dynamics that take place in the intimate setting of Kenny Lee's Provinces bar. Firmin and Kay stopped in from Cafe de Paris towards the end of the night. Kay loves House at Pooh Corner so we always play it for her when she comes into the bar.
Andie was able to show off Kayden but she missed seeing Kim. Kathy sat out in the restaurant with her for most of the evening so she could hold the baby too.
I got a call from Bill Spies about doing some more recording sessions. It has been quite some time. I haven't been back in touch yet but it feels like time to move forward on his project of spiritual life songs. Stay tuned.

There were two big events in the month of June. They were the birth of Kayden and Larry  Mason's Birthday Party. Both occasions were fine times of celebration. To see a new life come into the world welcomed in the arms of love, to gather with our friends, acquaintances and new people to sing and play and have fun. These are the moments that take our breath away and refuel our spirits to face the day to day.

Larry's birthday was a blessing in many ways as it really got Mike, Jimmy, Christopher and I to put together a show with a list and endings and beginnings to songs. Who knew? We drug our tired bottoms into Mike's Studio 04 and honed these tunes down and proceeded to play our butts off. For some of us that may not be a good analogy, those of us with little or no butts anyway.

I did get to spend the better part of the last day of June in Triad studios with Erik Helmersen and that was a kick. He is a very talented young man. He ended up singing Love is Kind and Gone to Yesterday ( two of the favorite songs I have written). We also got together in July and spent some time playing and recording. It is all good. I wish I had some of that energy.

June was good to us and so is July.
