Andie on the beach in Los Cabos

Mexico was so much fun! I can't believe how many great human beings you can meet on your vacation if you go to the right places. We are blessed with our life friends Terri and Randy and how much joy they have brought into our lives by sharing their space in Cabos and in Florida and in Ohio, but most of all their time. It is one of the wonders of life that we can meet people who are instantly dear to our heart and who will remain that way forever. What a joy are friends.

It is challenging to write a newsletter before the fact. I guess updates would be good, and of course, it might be even more interesting if there was more happening. There is actually plenty going on every day but I am not sure how interesting it would be. We are busy coming up with new ideas for the future leap of faith that will involve our friends Randy and Terri.
Back from Vacation and ready to Latin Rock and acoustic jazz. I am really looking forward to jumping into some simple compilations of songs. Simple is as simple does. I feel it in my bones.

We also have to jump on the Casey Garland project if he can lay down the hammer long enough. Get that River Music out there!

I am looking forward to the Taste of Edmonds and this first weekend of August at the Columbia Winery. Friday through Sunday I will be playing several shows a day.
The band is gearing up for the recording project. Papa Murat CD is the next focus for us as a group-largely Latin rock.

Our concert at the Taste was big fun. The band is coming along. I love having John Matthews on percussion. It fills out the sound so much. It keeps that island groove.
Manolito pours on the Salsa with his wonderful percussive and melodic approach to the flute. Mark Dodge is very tasteful in his leads and he adds lots of flavor without stepping on the vocals. It's all good.

Johnny Suede has been in Oregon doing some shows with Rachel Indigo. He said it was a blast last time he went. Click on his photo to see more pictures and read some of his poetry and song lyrics. He is growing stronger as an artist all the time. He needs to be out there playing. He has talent dripping off his fingers. Go Johnny.
We spoke this week and there is talk of going to San Francisco. New frontiers and new opportunities await the one who will brave the open road. I am hopeful for the future of this very talented young man. It is a joy to see him express his soul through his music.

John Matthews introduced me to a new CD, Anastasia and John. Great music!! I would love to do some writing with them. I love the chords that John Gonzales uses in the Latin jazzy flavored songs. Check out their website, One is more flashy. One is more simple. Their songs relate to real life stuff and I was greatly touched by the emotion in their music. I love the harmonies most of all.

  • The Bahia Band has reformed and is sounding better than ever. I will keep in touch with Manolito and let you know when their next performance will be. It is hot Latin Jazz with many beautiful and traditional jazz melodies and rhythms. Manolito will join us on flute at the Taste of Edmonds.

  • Music is the means we share each other's souls. Many new opportunities are arising as each day passes. I was impressed by Mark Dodge's studio on Camano Island and hope to co-produce music together in the near future. What a talented man he is. And then there is Jimmy and Mike, fine talents and good human beings and my friends. They are the heart beat of my rhythm section. I am proud to be on stage with them any time and anywhere. I look forward to doing more with the band.
  • Andie has embarked on a new business as a distributor a product called Juice Plus +, an all natural whole food based supplement. It comes from the juice of fresh fruits and vegetables. She has both of us taking it. She also has Faith on it. I can really feel a difference. It has taken about three weeks but I am sleeping through the night and that is an adventure in itself. I haven't been able to do that for many years now. She will have a web site to promote her new venture shortly. I give it a hearty two thumbs up. For more information or to order juice plus send her an e-mail.

The Freedom Tribe is going through some changes. I hope to see them come out stronger and together after the transition. Where will they land only God knows. There is such a strong spirit to their music. Sometimes in the course of life one can lose focus on what it is you are singing and saying. At least that has been the case for me many times. They have some great music available from their website. I love the mix on Live In Ashland. Check them out and watch for tour dates.

Sarah will be wrapping up her first song for her film this month. The music sounds great. She re-cut her vocals this weekend. They sound great. She is amazing herself with all her versatility and she is really growing as a human being. Sarah has always been something of an old soul, very reflective, very thoughtful and much too hard on herself. She is one of the most caring people I have met. It is very heart warming to watch her taking care of and caring for herself.
Kenny Lee of Provinces Restaurant in Edmonds is one of the sponsors of our show at the Taste of Edmonds and I will be playing at Provinces the same night of our concert. I hope we can squeeze as many band members in as possible. Kenny has been a good friend for many years and he serves some wonderful Asian food. If you stay late on a night I'm playing you might even see Kenny play a little guitar and sing. Thanks for your support Kenny!
Bill Spies is working on sharing his heart felt songs of spirit to the world. We are bouncing between Studio 04 and Silent T. It takes time. It is amazing how the hours can fly by when you are in the studio. We have had a lull as Andie and I have been traveling so much. Time to get to it and break it out on the world.

Acoustic CD We are working on tightening up several new songs for an acoustic CD. I am hoping to get the family involved on a collection of classic and new ballads. I love the new tunes and yet there are some songs that are like cherished old friends that grow closer to one's heart with time. There are so many writers in our family with such a wide variety of styles. Funny things is, we hardly ever sit down and play music together. What is that about?
